WHERE MY LITTLE PONY COMES FROM


My Little Pony is an entertaining franchise that was developed by the Hasbro brand, its line of toys had as a target audience children between 3 and 8 years old, which would not be known then, is that a few years later thanks to the Animated television series, My Little Pony would gain more ground and encompass an adult audience that became a fan of the characters and the values ​​they conveyed, increasing the popularity of MLP.


It started with a line of plastic toy ponies that was developed by Bonnie Zacherle, Charles Muenchinger and Steve D’Aguanno, this production started in 1983, and whose main characteristics were to have colored bodies, also colorful manes and a symbol unique on one or both sides of the body.

Following the line of the original toy that was My Pretty and which was released to the market in 1981, “My Little Pony” was introduced to gondolas in 1983 and the line became popular during the 1980s. The entire line of original toys ran from 1983 to 1995 (from 1992 in the US), and was the inspiration for series and all audiovisual products that emerged from the success of the first season.


But the big MLP explosion didn’t happen until 2010 when the 4th generation emerged. Where the brand’s sales increased dramatically and they were able to raise $ 1 billion in retail sales in 20141 and $ 650 million in retail sales in 2013.

My Pretty Pony

It was a brown pony with white spots before the hooves and one on the face, with the blonde mane, some ties, a hair comb and a comb that is used for horses, an old farm type hat was put on and a red blanket, unlike any My Little Pony toy, this one did not have the side marks or cutie mark, although later a version was made with it, its eyes were blue and it had a lever on the neck that when moved, moved ears, blinked and wagging tail.


First generation (G1)

In 1983 My Little Pony appears for the first time, thanks to the success of My Pretty Pony, the Hasbro brand was transferred. Its design was much smaller, always keeping the same pose that they brought from my pretty pony, but in this version they already began to incorporate pastel colors on the bodies and on the hair that were more similar to large manes, and already in this model They incorporated the cutie marks to the sides.

The G3 Generation started sales in 1997, in this version they changed the design of the mlp making them look thinner and with glass eyes, and incorporated rainbows on the legs, a design that was not well received by fans causing loss of followers and sales losses. In 1998 Hasbro Interactive released an Interactive CD-ROM called “My Little Pony: Frendship Gardens” which encouraged them to continue launching more G3 ponies. It is 1999 Hasbro decides to stop producing this version, although in other countries this generation managed to stay until 2000 and 2001 and in Europe until 2003


Third and a half generation (G3.5)

During its development, the number of ponies, unicorns and pegasus began to be reduced to a minimum (the so-called Core 7), which were Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Cherrielee, Scootaloo, Toola Roola, the unicorn Swettie Belle and the Pegaso StarSong; and in 2009 the previous design was changed for a new one, which was smaller and with large heads, and the Pegasus had its wings replaced by those of a butterfly. These changes were not very pleasant for the public, and despite this he had an intense promotion such as the movie (Twinkle’s Adventure of Desires) and a mini series broadcast on the MLP page, which managed to sell much less than the G2. In 2010 this version would disappear.

In 2010 the 4 (G) arises and it is here where MLP takes the strength it has today in the market, with My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic), this animated television series. It premiered on October 10, 2010 on the US channel Hub Network brought to television by Lauren Faust, and is based on the My Little Pony franchise, owned by Hasbro. The series is produced by Hasbro Studios and Studio B Productions (Currently known as DHX Media). Its ninth season in the United States, which premiered on October 12, 2019, has already ended and is still broadcast in dozens of countries in more than twenty languages.

This has exponentially boosted the toy industry and a number of other products that have sprung up around the MLPs. My Little Pony: Equestria Girls was a feature film released in theaters on June 16, 2013 and was later broadcast on the US cable channel Hub Network on September 1, 2013. It later premiered as its sequels, My Little. Pony: Equestria Girls – Rainbow Rocks on September 27, 2014, after My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – The Friendship Games on September 26, 2015 and finally My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – The Legend of Everfree on September 24 2016. On October 6, 2017, her eponymous filmographic adaptation premiered, and this time, she was counted with famous actors who participated in the film.
